GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
We survived the busiest week of band last week!!!  Your night pep rally performance was FANTASTIC.  You had energy in your performance without going beyond your best sound and most of the sets were really solid.  I thought you had a good performance at USSBA, but a slower movement 1 caused a few timing issues and a few brass members going beyond their best sounds in our big moments.  We ended up receiving 5th place, right behind Stratford who received 4th.  You proved this week you can deliver a 1st Division performance.  Capture how you felt at the pep rally and rehearse and perform this way each time!  Many more visuals are coming your way, plus a new ending to our show!!  We are two weeks out of UIL contest.  Continue to work hard to perfect this show so your tradition of excellence will live on!  We truly appreciate all the hard work you have done.  Thank you band!!

Sat, Oct 22:  UIL Marching Contest (Berry Center)
Sat, Oct 29  UIL Area Marching Contest - if we advance (Waller)
Mon-Tues, Nov 7-8  UIL State Marching Contest - if we advance (San Antonio)

TRIP PAYMENT #1 DUE - 1 week extension
We have extended the due date for the first trip payment.  All students turning in a contract to go on the trip must have $150 by this Friday or you will be dropped from the trip.

COOKIE DOUGH
Tentatively, the cookie dough will be coming in on October 27.  Cookies arrive frozen and must remain frozen.  Please note that if we advance to Area marching contest, we will have our last rehearsal of the week this day, so you must have a parent / guardian pick this us right after school.  You either have to deliver the cookie dough to your buyers on the 27th, or you must have room in your freezer if you want to deliver later.

1st NINE WEEKS REPORT CARD
This is coming up and yet again, it could affect eligibility.  If you are currently ineligible, you may gain your eligibility back as long as you pass EVERY CLASS ON YOUR REPORT CARD.  If you are currently eligible, you may lose your eligibility if you fail a non exemptible class and you will be unable to compete at Area marching contest if we advance.  The band schedule is set up to where you can receive 5 HOURS of tutoring a week (30 min before the start of school / 30 min after school) and this doesn’t even include the Study Hall class on Thursday.  Please take advantage of this because EVERY student in band is important!

OCTOBER INSTRUMENT RENT:
Don’t forget, if you are using a school owned instrument, your October rent is past due!!

TRADITION
Ask yourself what are you personally going to do to have our TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE continue.  How far do you want this band to go.  Visualize yourself and how it would feel if we advanced to Area.  Visualize yourself and how it would feel to advance to State for the first time ever.  You have the power to do ANYTHING you want.    I think it’s time we make history!

CHARMS
All of the finances that have been turned in are located on Charmsoffice.com.  Instructions on how to log on is on our website, TheSpringWoodsHSBand.org.  It is very important that you are monitoring your son/daughters account and attendance history.  **Please note, even though the financials were entered, there are a couple of “fixed fees” (such as the school owned instrument fee) that was assigned to everybody.  I know we have several students who own their own instrument.  If your son/daughter owns their own instrument, please email me at donald.zurbriggen@springbranchisd.com so I can take off that fee.. Once you log on for the first time, the finances page might seem a big confusing.  Depending on what the payment is for determines what “section” the finances will show up in.  There is a fixed payment ledger, a fundraising ledger and a miscellaneous ledger.  An example of a fixed payment would be:  The Activity Fee, Instrument Rental Fee, Marching Shoe Fee.  Once the fee is PAID IN FULL, it will be marked as paid.  If it is NOT PAID IN FULL, it will show that you owe the full amount.. EVEN IF YOU HAVE PAID TOWARDS IT.  Partial payments show up in the miscellaneous ledger so you can keep track how much you have paid towards the fee.  The Fundraiser Ledger shows you what fundraiser you participated in, the total amount turned in and the amount of profit you have made.  The profit can go directly to the spring trip payment.  If your son/daughter is not going on the trip, it can be applied to instrument rental, activity fee, etc.  A miscellaneous fee would be a flip folder, lyre, banquet tickets, etc.  ALSO, it would be a great time to sign up to volunteer at our events.  Go to the Charms Calendar.  Every main event that we have has a multi-colored hand in the corner of the date box.  Click on it and put your name down to help!  We love our parents!  Please email me if you have any issues with Charms.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Private Lessons are an EXTREMELY important part of your child’s music education.  Private lessons will start the second week of school for those who are interested.  Lessons are 30 minutes long and cost $17.00 per lesson.  A 15 lesson commitment is required.  Most lessons are on our campus, some are at other Spring Branch ISD schools.  A private lesson application is available in the band hall.  The very successful bands in Texas have the MAJORITY of their band on private lessons.  **If this seems financially out of reach, please email me and we will work something out!  Partial scholarships and a few full scholarships are available.

STAY CONNECTED
We offer many ways to stay informed of our schedule.  Our awesome website is updated every Sunday with that week’s schedule.  If you want to see what is going on farther along in the future, go to Charmsoffice.com to view the entire Fall rehearsal schedule.  Log in instructions are in the band handbook.  Please join the “Official SWHS Band Page” on Facebook.  I also have a school Facebook account that can be accessed by parents AND students.  Request to be my friend (Don Zurbriggen SWHS).  All of these mediums are updated weekly with important information.
